Stefan Schlitter was born in West Berlin in 1959. His father, a medical doctor, and mother exposed Stefan to a large collection of literature and art books at home. At the age of 13 he discovered Michelangelo's drawings of nudes, started copying them. Soon the walls of his bedroom were covered with copies, sketches, and drawings. When visitors came to the house, they wondered about the talent of young "Steve". Soon he went to museums to explore the works of the old Masters and started oil painting on canvas. Stefan treasured the paintings of Henri Rousseau (A French naive painter, 1910), Rene Magritte (A Belgian surrealist painter 1930s), Paul Gauguin (A French painter, 1890), and Andy Warhol (Pop Art and colors). In the end Stefan developed his own approach to painting-- creating a style uniquely his own.

Stefan has traveled across the U.S., Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and South-Pacific as if he were a child of the former "Pan-American World Airways". He has visited the exotic locations of Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Mexico, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Bali, Australia, Fiji and Cook Islands South Pacific.

After finishing high school, he quickly entered Berlin Art School-- one of the oldest and best renowned art schools in Germany. Stefan has taken all the influences around him into his art since he began traveling the world and painting on location. He now runs his own studio in Berlin.
